THE CHIEF..... Jim O’Neal founder of Rooster Records and Living Blues Magazine and one of the key people responsible for the nickname, “The Chief” will introduce Eddy at the Blues Hall of Fame induction in Memphis on May 4th.
Eddy earned his nickname, “The Chief”, from the title of his first American LP on Rooster Blues when he posed for the cover on horseback in an Indian headdress (a gift from a fan). Already playing one of the busiest nightclub schedules of any Chicago bluesman, Clearwater ramped up his road work and rocked the blues harder than ever. More albums for Rooster Blues, Blind Pig, Bullseye Blues, and his own Cleartone imprint followed, along with assorted European releases, leading to widely acclaimed releases for Bullseye Blues (Rock “n” Roll City, with Los Straitjackets) and Alligator (West Side Strut) as well as his own label Cleartone Records which his newest release, “Soul Funky” Live is on. Still strutting his stuff in his war bonnet, Eddy Clearwater adds to a proud legacy every time he steps onstage or into a recording studio.

The Blues Foundation’s Blues Hall of Fame Museum in Memphis will feature 2016 Eddy as a part of their new exhibit in May. As the new class of Blues legends get inducted into the Blues Hall of Fame on May 4th visitors can go to the museum where they will get to see some of ‘The Chief’ displayed in one of the display cases. SWEET HOME CHICAGO CONCERT WITH BILLY BRANCH & SONS OF BLUES
Eddy was a part of the Blues extravaganza at Governors State University which brought together Chicago’s favorite bluesmen and women with Billy Branch and The Sons of Blues. The youngest member of the Blues cartel, Jamiah Rogers who was so honored to be on stage with the blues master, Eddy Clearwater. ‘I’m so honored to be a part of this concert and to play on the same stage with ‘The Chief’. I’m almost 21 years old so maybe this year I can actually get on stage with him at Buddy Guy’s Legends and play a song,” said Jamiah. “He reminds me of me when I was a kid said Eddy. He is a fine musician and he has style and class like the bluesmen of my day did,” said Eddy.

“BB was so amazed when he saw me get up on stage and play with Muddy Waters. BB came up on stage to play with us and he gazed at me and then asked me..... how do you play that left handed and upside down’ —That evening was one of the greatest moments of my life playing with my two mentors and guitar heroes. They both told me, just keep on practicing and remember to always be humble and give your all to the audience. I have carried that philosophy with me all of my life and I thank them from the bottom of my heart.”

The big birthday celebration ended with the whole audience singing happy birthday to Eddy and the band of blues brothers on stage playing, 'Got Your Mojo Workin’ and did they ever. Eddy's fans were in the aisles dancing the night away and singing along.

Not every town has a Chicago Blues Legend living in the neighborhood. Skokie, IL is lucky enough to call ‘The Chief’ their hometown legend. On November 5, 2007 Eddy was presented with a plaque by the Village of Skokie’s Mayor, George Van Dusen. The first, “Arts Legacy Award” was created by Skokie resident, Lynn Orman Weiss to honor the Grammy-nominated & Handy Award winner, Blues artist for his musical achievements and mentoring of young artists. Mayor George Van Dusen proclaimed it Eddy ‘The Chief’ Clearwater Day.

Although he‘s performed and recorded all around the world during his amazing musical odyssey that dates back to the 1950’s, he loves to come home to his wonderful home he shares with his wife, Renee in Skokie. ‘This is where I create my music, I practice with my band and I enjoy my family and friends. He may be on stages at the RAWA Festival in Poland or Muddy’s Club in Germany, but he loves to entertain at his annual birthday bash just over the border at Evanston’s, SPACE where all his neighbors and friends come out for a good time. Eddy even has a new CD and video out of his 80th birthday, SOUL FUNKY now available here; CD Baby, iTunes, Amazon and the Alligator store.

SOUL FUNKY LIVE was mixed with Rick Barnes at Rax Traxx studios and mastered by Mike Tholen. Eddy is working on his next CD release on the Alligator Records label and looking forward to going back into Rax Traxx to record.
